My grandpa was a talented finish carpenter. He worked with a construction company on projects like building Little America and the Washington D.C. LDS temple but he also had a workshop in his garage and made smaller projects like coffee tables and a dollhouse for me. For Christmas one year he made this little rocking chair for my older brother, Richard, who was only two or three at the time. Last year Richard cleaned out his room at my dad’s house (he’s handicapped and will never live on his own) and my dad offered the little rocker to me. I was so excited to see it again! It was pretty worn after over 35 years of use so I cleaned it up a bit and gave it a new coat of paint. My 3yo loves rocking in it and I love seeing it around the house. Looking at it reminds me of my grandpa and his love of woodworking.

“Little Rocker” is 11x14x1.5 inches, oil in canvas. The painting wraps around the edges so it may be displayed unframed if desired.
