I’m, admittedly, not a great chess player, but I do know the queen is the most powerful piece on the board. By master chess players, she is often saved as long as possible. Then, when she is brought out, she is a major player in winning the game. I read recently that in this day and age, women of faith are God’s queens. We have been saved for the end (however long “the end” of the game may be) and are a powerful force for good in the world. I’ve painted chess pieces for years but now this special connection makes me love them even more. This queen, especially, is one of my favorites. It’s from a set made of soapstone that my parents brought back from Brazil for my family. I love the short, squatty shape and color and I love that she’s every bit as strong as a tall willowy wooden piece would be.
